West coast weather and 11 medals (Wednesday's Recap)

It was a wet and soggy day in Winnipeg reminding all of Team BC that we are west coasters at heart.

The swimmers continued to perform in the pool winning another 11 medals – three gold, five silver and three bronze.  We discovered that the swimmers have a secret to their success.

“One of our managers brought a bunch of yellow and blue nail polish for us,” said Surrey's Arianna Hunsicker, who has two bronze medals – 100m and 200m Para freestyle. “One night, we decided to paint our fingernails and show some Team BC spirit. Raben Dommann (North Vancouver) won gold in the 400m freestyle. Time of 4:02.34

“It’s a great swim for me. At the beginning of the year, my coach and I looked at times. We said at the end of the year, if I can go 4:02, that sets me up for next season and keep on building on that until 2020 in the Olympic year. I accomplished what I wanted to this year.”

Less than one hour later, he was back in the water swimming the men’s 4x100m relay. Team BC took silver. 

Jessica Luo (Victoria) now has four medals at the Games after winning silver with her teammates in the 4x100m relay.

On being called the “anchorwoman,” she said, “every single relay is a different experience. But I am just super happy and super proud of the three girls that were ahead of me. They put me in a really good place. I am really proud of my fourth medal.”
