Team BC Continues Excellence Into Day 2

The 2017 Canada Summer Games continued with Day 2 of the swimming events as BC athletes looked to improve upon an already stellar start. Starting off with the 100m Freestyle, Jessica Luo tied for third with a time 58.00 on the Women’s side while Tyler Wall took home a gold medal for BC with a time of 52.36. Genny Verge and Mikyla Carlow finished second and third in the Women’s Special Olympics 100m Freestyle, with times of 1:26.76 and 1:28.59. On the Men’s side, Jesse Shade claimed one of his two gold medals of the day in the 100m Free, going a solid 1:00.33 and beating the rest of the field by about 6 seconds!

The BC relays again brought home some hardware, as both the  Women’s and Men’s team finished in a top three spot. The Women’s side snagged a silver medal with a time of 1:47.52 while the Men’s side got the bronze medal with a time of 1:37.98.

The Men’s side brought home two more medals in the 50m Breaststroke. Michael Schmidt took the bronze medal with a time of 29.87, finishing just .12 behind second place. Jesse Shade picked up his second gold of the night in the Special Olympics 50m Breast, finishing with a time of 37.88.

To wrap up the night, the Women’s side picked up two more medals. Sophie Lorrette placed 3rd with a time of 2:19.20 in the 200m Fly, while Bailey Herbert led the way en route to a gold medal in the 400m IM with a time 4:56.47.
