2017 Swim BC AA LCM Champs - Day 3 Recap

The 2017 SwimBC AA LC Championships came to a close on Sunday as swimmers from all around the province looked to cap off the meet with a strong finish. Day 3 events for both boys and girls included 200m Breaststroke, 400m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, and 100m Freestyle.

Highlights from finals included Sheigh Gaudette (SPART) continuing her Breaststroke dominance by claiming another gold in the Girls 14 & Over 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2:45.24. She previously took home 1st place in the 100m Breastoke on Friday. Nolan Knox (PN) dropped a total of 16.11 seconds en route to a gold medal in the Boys 12-13 400m Free, touching in at a time of 4:57.66. One of the closest events of the night was the Girls 11 & Under 200m Backstroke, where Leah Soetaert (EVOSC) snatched the gold medal with a time of 2:51.82. Not far behind, Liberty Vaughan (PGB) and Jorja Olver (PSW) finished 2nd and 3rd with the times of 2:51.82 and 2:52.89 respectively. Making either an ‘A’ or a ‘B’ final in everything he swam, Ben Say (KISU) capped off the meet with a 2nd place finish in the Boys 14 & Over 100m Freestyle with a best time of 58.14.

2017 Swim BC LCM AA Champs - Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of the 2017 SwimBC LC AA Championships continued the trend of swimming excellence with an abundance of solid swims to show. The events for both boys and girls included 200m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke, 400m IM, 50m Free, and 200m Medley Relay.

Highlights from Saturday included Ryan Murphy’s (VKSC) gold in the Boys 12-13 100m Backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:12.27. The 12-13 final presented the narrowest field in finals, with the top 5 boys all touching in less than a second apart. Another tight race was the Girls 14 & Over 400m IM where Ashley Bagabuyo (KCS) claimed first place with a time of 5:29.23. Samantha Scott (VKSC) and Maia Medland (CHENA) finished second and third with times of 5:30.32 and 5:30.79 respectively. Finally, the Boys 12 & Under 200m Medley Relay was closely contested race featured the KWIC ‘A’ team and CDSC ‘A’ team finishing .02 apart to claim first and second respectively.

2017 Swim BC LCM AA Champs - Day 1 Recap

The 2017 Swim BC LC AA Championships, hosted by the Richmond Rapids Swim Club, kicked off to a fast start on Friday. Events for both boys and girls included the 200m Freestyle, 100m Breast, 100m Fly, 200m IM, 800m Freestyle, and 200m Free Relays.

Highlights from the Friday finals session include the Girls 14 and Over 200m Freestyle and the Boys 11 and Under 200m IM. In the 200m Freestyle, Michi Duclos (SFA), Isabella Dayton Cesareo (CHENA), and Cecilia Soroco (RAPID) all touched within 0.16 seconds of each other for the tightest podium race of the evening. The 200m IM was equally as thrilling, with tight races for first and second, as well as the fourth through eight place swimmers all finishing within 1.41 seconds of each other. Tyler Friesen (LOSC) touched first in a time of 2:59.06.
