AAA LCM Champs - Day 4 Recap

The 2017 SwimBC LCM AAA Championships came to a close with a bang on Sunday night. Two Canadian records fell at the hands of the UVPCS Men’s 13-14 200m medley relay team (Brendan Fitzpatrick, Michael Schmidt, Keir Ogilvie, and Anthony Gutierrez) and Jacob Brayshaw (KISU) in the Men’s Para 50m FR S2 class. The UVPCS team took down the previous record that was set just a little over a month ago by the Cascade Swim Club. The slid under the time by 0.33 seconds. Brayshaw broke his own record that he set back in May by 12.14 seconds. Congratulations boys!

 

Highlights from the final evening include the Women’s 11 and under 200m BR, Men’s 14-15 400m IM,  Women’s 12-13 200m IM, and Men’s 16-18 50m FR. The Women’s 11 and under 200m BR saw a tight race for gold, as well as for seventh place. Jordan Vertue (PGB) touched first in a time of 3:03.24, just ahead of silver medallist Gracie Maryschak (LOSC) who came in at a 3:03.63. The Men’s 14-15 400m IM was also a tight race, this time between second and third place finishers Myles Wheeler (SPART) and Keir Ogilvie (UVPCS). With one 50 to go, the boys were 0.08 seconds apart. Wheeler touched just 0.24 seconds ahead of Ogilvie. Both boys were three seconds back from the winner, Scott Pfeifer (SKSC), who won the event in a time of 4:49.10. The Women’s 12-13 200m IM had a similar race, between both second and third place finishers Isabella Brunoro (SFA) and Camryn Stannard (UVPCS). Brunoro just out-touched Stannard by by 0.53 seconds. The leader, Ashley McMillan (KISU), won the event in a time of 2:25.44. The Men’s 16-18 50m FR was close, with the top six men all touching within a second of each other. Tai Long Singh (WDSC) won the gold in a time of 24.11, followed by Brain Ni (ISC) and Tyler Wall (KISU) in 24.41 and 24.60, respectively.

 

In team scores, UVPCS took the banner for both combined and Women’s team scores, and HYACK won the title on the Men’s side. Congratulations to all of the athletes who competed this weekend.
