AAA LCM Champs - Day 3 Recap

SwimBC swimmers made some waves on the third day of competition at the 2017 SwimBC LCM AAA Championships. Three more provincial records fell on Thursday. Yutong Wu (HYACK) took down his fourth provincial record of the meet, this time in the Men’s 11-12 200m FR in a time of 2:06.73. This beats the previous mark set by Tai Long Singh by 1.5 seconds. Madisen Jacques (HYACK) set the first record for the female contingent in the Women’s 11-12 100m FL in a time of 1:05.44, breaking Faith Knelson’s record by 0.38 seconds. The UVPCS Men’s 14 and under team ofBrendan Fitzpatrick, Michael Schmidt, Keir Ogilvie, and Anthony Gutierrez shattered the 13-14 400m Medley relay mark by a whopping six seconds, touching in a time of 4:08.22. The previous record was set by the Richmond Rapids in 2009. 


Other highlights from the evening include the Women’s 16-18 100m BR, Men’s 12-13 200m FR, Women’s 14-15 100m FL, and Men’s 11 and under 100m FL. In the Women’s 16-18 100m BR, second to sixth place were within 1.6 seconds of each other. Sophie Tarrant (UVPCS) touched first, Renae Ledoux (PSW) took silver, and Michelle Huang (CHENA) slid into third. The Men’s 12-13 200m FR was just as thrilling, with Justin Fotherby (KISU) and Yutong Wu (HYACK) nabbing gold and silver, respectively. Jack Cameron (KCS) just edged out Peter Huang (HYACK) by 0.03 seconds to snag the bronze medal. There were close races between third to sixth place as well as between seventh and eighth. Four girls touched within 0.92 seconds of each other in the Women’s 14-15 100 FL. Jessica Luo (UVPCS) took gold, with Josie Field (LOSC) and Octavia Liu (HYACK) right at her heels. The fifth through seventh place finishers were all within 0.3 seconds of each other. The Men’s 11 and Under 100m FL also showcased some tough racing. Matthew Wang (PSW) took the win, followed by Tommy Brown (PGB) only 0.25 seconds after. The third through sixth place finishers were also quite close.
