2018 Tier I Summer Championships - Day 1 Recap

The 2018 Swim BC Tier I Summer Championships got off to a hot start on Friday morning in Kelowna. The meet, hosted by the Kelowna Aquajets Swim Club, has approximately 375 swimmers set to race over the course of the weekend.

Two records fell on Friday, both at the hands of Madisen Jacques (HYACK). Jacques took her first provincial record on Friday morning in the Girls 11-12 400m IM. She dipped under the 5:00 barrier for the first time in a time of 4:58.17, 2.03 seconds faster than the 13 year old record set by Alyssa Bakken in 2005. Later in the afternoon session, she broke her own record set back in March in the Girls 11-12 100m FL. This record not only marks a new provincial standard but a new national standard as well. Congratulations, Madisen!

Highlights from the Friday morning and afternoon sessions include the Boys 11 and under 200m FR, Girls 11-12 200m BR, Girls 10 and under 100m BK, and Boys 12-13 100m FL.
