Congratulations to HYACK’s Shima Taghavi on breaking the National Age Group Record for the women’s SCM 200 Breast in a time of 2:29.69! Shima broke the record previously held by Courtenay Chuy which had been on the record books since 1998. In addition to her National Record, Shima also broke the BC Provincial Record in her 100 Breast with a time of 1:11.39. Congratulations Shima!

Jacob Brayshaw Breaks National Para Records

Jacob Brayshaw of the KISU Swim Club shaved over 11 seconds off his own record by finishing the S2 50-metre freestyle in 1:49.37 seconds during the morning preliminaries. He swam the final in 1:51.71.

It was the fifth record of the meet for the 20-year-old Vernon resident, who lives with muscular dystrophy. He also set new standards in the 50 and 100-m backstroke S2 and 100 and 200-m freestyle S2.

Brayshaw also had a top time of 1:55.61 in the 50-m breaststroke SB2.

Congrats Jacob!! What an incredible achievement.

New National Record

Last weekend, a new National Record was set at the Fraser & Island Divisonals. Laon Kim of Hyack Swim Club broke the short course 13-14 200m Individual Medley record. This is also a provincial record and Laon’s 6th provincial record this season. Congratulations Laon! This is a huge accomplishment.

New Provincial & National Records!

BC swimmers had a busy weekend for records! Four relay records were broken, three of which are also National records! Congrats to the Pacific Seawolves relay team made up of Matthew Cao, Max Wu, Borui Zhang & Neil Zhou. They broke the provincial and national records for the 11-12 Men SCM 4x50m Freestyle Relay (1:47.66), 4x100m Freestyle Relay (3:57.01) and 4x200m Freestyle Relay (8:33.72). This is a huge accomplishment for these athletes and can’t wait to see what you do next.

At Western Canadian Championships, Katelyn Schroeder, Macey Larson, Madisen Jacques & Leilani Fack from Langley Olympians broke the provincial record in the 15-17 Women LCM 4x100m Medley with a time of 4:15.03. Congrats swimmers!

New Provincial Records

Canadian Swimming Trials wrapped up this weekend, and BC Provincial Records were broken 3 times over the meet! We would like to congratulate Laon Kim (Hyack Swim Club) for breaking the LCM 13-14 Men 100m Freestyle record and the LCM 13-14 Men 200m Medley record. He broke the 100m Freestyle record with a time of 52.84. In the 200m Medley, he broke the record in prelims with a time of 2:09.94 then lowered it even more in finals with a time of 2:08.70.

He has previously broken 4 provincial records this season in the Men 13-14 Short Course Meters 200m Freestyle, 200m Medley, 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly.

Congrats UBC Thunderbirds on your performance at the USports Championships. They brought home the Men’s Championship Title and 4 Provincial Records! We would like to recognize the following swimmers for breaking provincial records:

Tayden De Pol – Open Men SCM 50m Backstroke – 23.54

Danielle Hanus – Open Women SCM 50m Backstroke – 26.45

Danielle Hanus – Open Women SCM 100m Backstroke – 56.60

Tayden De Pol, Justice Migneault, Keir Ogilvie, Blake Tierney – Open Men SCM 4 x 100m Medley Relay – 3:29.74

It has been exciting having provincial records fall this season! We can’t wait to hopefully see more fall next week during Trials. Congrats swimmers.

NEW PROVINCIAL RECORDS

2 Provincial Records have been broken in the past few weeks.

Congrats to the PSW Relay Team for breaking the Men 11-12 SCM 4x50m Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:51.00. Swimmers on the relay are Neil Zhou, Max Wu, Borui Zhang & Matthew Cao. The record was broken at the PSW Tri-Cities Meet.

Big congrats to Laon Kim (HYACK) who broke his 4th provincial record this season! He broke the Men 13-14 SCM 200m Freestyle with a time of 1:53.37 at the SFU Western Invitational. He has previously broken the Men 13-14 SCM 200m Medley, 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly this season.

Congrats to all the record breakers. Your hard work and dedication have really paid off.
