UPDATES ON CATEGORY D COACHES NCCP REQUIREMENTS

May 2, 2023

The two-year limit has been removed from NCCP Community Sport Coach course which means a coach may remain at this level, in the D category of registration indefinitely. However, it will be a requirement that coaches at the Community Sport level complete the Making Ethical Decisions (MED) training to become Community Sport Coach TRAINED. By completing the MED training and moving to “TRAINED” status will trigger the requirement of Maintenance of Training and Certification and the collection of PD points (10 PD points in 5 years).

Coaches MAY NOT just challenge the MED Online Evaluation; they MUST take the training. Coaches who may have previously completed only the MED Online Evaluation will need to complete the MED training. Coaches will also be encouraged to complete evaluations once the MED training has been completed.

This recognizes a variety of circumstances that may exist for coaches at this level:

  • 15 year old, coaching 3 years of high school and not continuing
  • Masters Coach
  • Summer Swimming Coach who only coaches summer swim league

The addition of the MED training as a requirement triggers the need for ongoing professional development for coaches staying in the sport that didn’t previously exist.

For the 2023-2024 season, all returning Community Sport Coaches, who have already completed the NCCP Community Sport Coach course will be required to complete the MED training by November 30, 2023.
