The second day of competition at the Paul Bergen 18&U International Championship meet in Beaverton, OR, was highlighted by three individual medals, including three silvers and a pair of top-five nationally-ranked swims.
Kierra Smith’s second-place finish in 200 Breastroke was probably the highlight of the night, as she took her PB in the event from 2:31 going into the meet to 2:26.58 - a time which is the fifth-fastest in Canada so far this year. Also in the 200 Breast final were three other Team BC members - Mariya Chekanovych (SFA), Charlotte Philpotts (WVOSC), and Katie Mann (PGB) - who finished fourth, fifth, and eighth, respectively.
The second silver medal of the night for Team BC came from Samantha Corea (UBCD) in 50 Fly, who finished just behind her club teammate, Noemie Thomas; and the final silver medal of the night was delivered by Keegan Zanatta (IS), whose 4:50.19 behind Chad Bobrosky of Calgary will give him the current fifth-fastest time in Canada this year.
Joe Byram (VKSC) won his second medal of the meet, taking a bronze in the 200 back after picking up the silver in 100 Back on Friday.
Other finalists for Team BC on day 2 included Samantha Corea and Stefanie Schmidt (UVPCS) in 200 Back (6th and 7th, respectively); Charlotte Philpotts (5th in 50 Fly); and Alec Page (IS) in 400 Free (eighth).
Competition wraps up with Sunday’s finals session which starts at 5:30pm; online results can be found at http://results.teamunify.com/osthsc/
