Putting a perfect bookend to the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games, Luke Reilly (UBCD) won the boys 5000m pool event - the last event of the meet - just as he'd won the first final of the meet - the boys 800 Free.
Sherry Liu (HYACK) also won the girls 5K race, getting under the one-hour mark with a time of 59:48.70. Reilly's time was 57:32.31, and he was followed in second place by Justin Chan (UBCD). Taylor Padington (IS) was the other BC girl racing on Sunday morning, and finished a close fourth in the event.
The 5000m pool event was added to the meet agenda as a substitute for an open water race, with no suitable open water venue being available in Kamloops.
The double-win in the 5000m race put an exclamation mark on Team BC's performance at the meet, as it won the point total, medal total, and gold medal count in both the boys and girls team standings.
