After a strong start on the second day of competition at the 2012 Pac Coast All-Star meet, held in Langley January 7-8, Team BC seemed to run up against a wall, as the percentage of best times decreased, as did the number of performances that ranked up in the top three.
While Team BC finished the first day of competition in third place by the slimmest of margins (a mere 1.5 points), and holding that position through the first relays and initial individual event (200 Free) of the second day, Pacific Northwest Swimming starting chipping away and did not relent, eventually scoring a decisive third-place finish ahead of Team BC, but still well-behind Pacific Swimming. SoCal Swimming, as is most common, held onto its commanding lead through the meet as well.
While Team BC had close to a dozen Top3 finishes on the first day, that number dwindled down to just four on the second day. Kevin Ye (RAPID) had a second-place finish in 11-12 boys 50 Breast, as did Darren Yuan (PSW) in 13-14 boys 50 Free, while Ben Neufeld (COMOX) finished third in 11-12 boys 50 back, and Paul Zou (WDSC) did likewise in 11-12 boys 50 Free.
Final team standings at the conclusion of the two-day, timed final meet were as follows:
1. SoCal Swimming: 966 points
2. Pacific Swimming: 837.5 points
3. Pacific Northwest Swimming: 507 points
4. Team BC: 446.5 points
5. Oregon Swimming: 203 points
Competition gets underway on Sunday at 8:45am, wrapping up around 1:00pm in this timed final format.
