The 2013 Canada Games will take place August 01-09 in Sherbrooke Quebec. This is a multi-sport competition between the Provinces held every four years and has been a great starting point for many of our international athletes. All three of our Olympic Games medal winners, Ryan Cochrane, Brent Hayden and Richard Weinberger are former Canada Games participants and medalists. (2005, 2001 and 2009 respectively)
Swimmers must be born in 1994 and later to be eligible for selection. We will select 12 female and 12 male able-bodied swimmers as well as 2 female and 2 male Para-swimmers. The selection meets will be World Championship Trials April 03-06, 2013 in Victoria for the able-bodied swimmers, and the Can-Am Championships April 02-04, 2013 in Minneapolis Minnesota for the Para-swimmers.
The able bodied swimmers will compete at Senior Nationals in Pointe Claire Quebec July 17-21. Post Nationals training plans are still be confirmed, however, we will have a staging camp after that competition, tentatively in Trois Rivieres Quebec from July 22 through August 01. On August 01 we will bus to Sherbrooke. The Para-swimmers will fly in July 21 to join the staging camp. Swimmers on the Canada Games team will not attend the Age Group Nationals in Montreal. They will also be ineligible for selection to the North American Challenge Cup team.
More details concerning training and travel will be released as plans become finalized. Contact Provincial Coach Vince Mikuska, firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
