Wrap-Up from First Two Days at Westerns

On “Paint the Town Red” night in Saskatoon a few B.C. swimmers decided to trim their red with gold. The first full day of the Western Canadian Championships saw five BC swimmers stand atop the medal podium.

The meet is divided into Youth (15&U girls, 16&U boys) and Open (16&O girls, 17&O boys) finals.

Joe Byram (VKSC) won the Youth 100 Back. Mariya Chekanovych (SFA) stroked to the win in the Youth 200 Breaststroke. Sean Nugent (SFA) took the men’s Open 200 Breaststroke. In the 400 I.M. Katie Caldwell (PSW) and Alec Page (IS) won their respective Youth events.

Other medalists were: Marcus Chu (UBCD) silver 100 Back Youth, Samantha Corea (UBCD) silver Youth 50 Fly, Edison Jyang (UBCD) silver Youth 50 Fly, Bronwyn Pasloski (WGB) silver Open 200 Breaststroke, Katie Mann (PGB) bronze in the same event.  Evan Broderick (SFA) won silver in the Youth 200 Breaststroke, Brian Lo (UBCD) bronze Youth 50 Freestyle, David Hibberd (SFA) bronze in the Open 50 Free. Caitlin Quon (UBCD) silver Youth 400 I.M. and Evan Broderick bronze Youth 400 I.M.

On Thursday Sherry Lui and Carmen Nam (SFA) took the Youth and Open titles, respectively, in the  women’s 1500Freestyle. Keegan Zanatta (IS) won the Youth 800 Freestyle with Alec Page (IS) second.
