Shuswap Swimming Team Polar Bear Swim for Juvenile Diabetes Research

The Shuswap Swimming Team once again took part in the Annual Polar Bear Swim to raise awareness and funds for Diabetes.  With a beautifully toasty -8° C at the beach, after breaking away the shoreline ice to take the plunge the swimmers were spirited in greeting 2011!

We had another great turnout at this season’s annual Polar Bear Swim at Canoe Beach.  This year there were at least a dozen youth swimmers, 3 masters swimmers, two coaches and many other supporters and onlookers who came out to join us in welcoming in the new year.

This year we are sending off over $250.00 to the Canadian Diabetes Association for research on Type 1 diabetes in honour of  team mates Ethan Quilty, Harrison Effray and last season’s team coach Alex Wuolle (all Type 1 diabetics).

The Shuswap Swimming Team wants to thank those who contributed for their efforts in raising awareness about this cause, and for their generous donations and support in this fun activity!

Happy New Year everyone, and we are looking forward to an even greater swimming season full of exceptional performances in 2011!
