Regional Technical Coach Mike Flegel and Provincial Coach Vince Mikuska travelled to Victoria this weekend to work with 39 swimmers from all over the Island. This was our biggest camp to date and ran very smoothly with swimmers who were very keen to listen and learn as well as, the 14-15 coaches who assisted over the course of the weekend. The two-day camp featured four pool sessions, as well as nutrition and sports psychology presentations. Susan Boegman from Canadian Sport Pacific gave a nutrition session on Saturday and Chrisite Gialloreto talked about the importance of mental preparation on Sunday.
Three-time Olympian, Joanne Malar was again part of the camp. Joanne talked to the swimmers about her career and used those stories to emphasize the importance of dreaming big and then working hard to accomplish your dreams. She talked of having a willingness to learn new things and not give up when swimming isn’t going your way.
The swimmers were a great group of learners who responded very well to what they were asked to do. The focus was on technical development, with our BIG ideas being POSTURE, RECOVERY, ANCHOR AND FISH KICK
