Day 1 at TAS BC AAA Champs

Island Swimming took the lead on Day 1 of the 2011 Team Aquatic Supplies SC AAA Age Group Championships on Thursday, with three individual wins in the distance events, along with a pair of wins in the relays, highlighted by a new 15-17 boys provincial record.

The team of Tanner Milne, Will Brothers, Alec Page, and Keegan Zanatta crushed the existing record of 7:33.32 with a time of 7:31.76.  While the boys were swimming in the 16-18 age category, being that they are all aged 17, the time stands as a 15-17 record.

Page was also one of the IS swimmers to score a win in the 1500m free, and his time of 15:09.34 stands as the high FINA-point swim of the meet thus far, scoring 817 points.  His performance also came as close as anyone to an individual record on the day, as he came within five seconds of Olympic bronze medalist, Ryan Cochrane's 2006 time of 15:04.00.

On the girls side, Sherry Liu of Hyack has the top FINA point score from the first day of competition, with her 8:40.54 giving her 806 FINA points.

Top five team scores after day 1 are as follows:

  1. Island Swimming - 451
  2. Hyack - 340
  3. Vancouver Pacific - 252
  4. Pacific Sea Wolves - 235
  5. Prince George Barracudas

Competition starts at 9:00am each day with finals getting underway at 5:30pm on Friday & Saturday, and at 3:30pm on Sunday.
