Day1 at 2011 Summer Nationals

The night was hot and humid in Montreal and the evening started at the top of the podium for British Columbia. Noemie Thomas of UBCD, started with a gold medal performance of 26.94 in the women’s 50 Butterfly, also breaking the existing provincial record in the event.

Kelly Aspinall, UBCD followed with a 24.28, good for the silver medal in the men’s 50 Butterfly.  Heather McLean, UBCD also earned a silver with her 2:01.18 in the women’s 200 Freestyle.  Hillary Caldwell, PSW, then stroked to the bronze medal in the women’s 100 Backstroke. 

Brenna McLean, WVOSC, stood up next and took the gold medal in the women’s 200 Butterfly with a 2:12.27. Mackenzie Downing, PCS, was the bronze medalist at 2:14.02. Will Brothers, IS, powered to the silver medal in the men’s 800 Freestyle with a respectable 8:08.86. Eric Hedlin, IS, was the bronze medalist at 8:09.93. Sherry Liu, HYACK, clocked a 16:53.71, taking the silver medal in the women’s 1500 Freestyle.
