Day 2 at 2011 Summer Nationals

BC swimmers had a good night at the pool on the second night of Summer Nationals with our second Provincial record in as many nights, 2 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Kierra Smith, LLSC, stroked to a silver medal with a great touch in a new 15-17 girls Provincial record time of 1:09.40. Hanna Pierce, UBCD, worked her way to a silver medal in the 400 IM, touching in 4:48.17, just holding off a hard charging Melanie Dodds, LOSC, who was third in 4:48.78.

Jordan Hartney won the men’s 400 IM with his best time since wining the event in 2009. He touched in 4:18.40, Alec Page, IS, took the silver in 4:23.18. In the men’s 50 Backstroke a family showdown resulted in Jake Tapp taking the silver in 26.25, just ahead of brother Charlie in 26.48.

In the 4x200 Freestyle relay the Island Swimming team of Jeremy Bagshaw, Keegan Zanatta , Eric Hedlin, and Alec Page took the gold medal. On the women’s side the UBCD team of Laura Sze, Brittney Harley, Lauren Lavigna and Heather McLean were the bronze medalists.
