Vancouver Island's best 12&U swimmers assembled in Victoria this weekend to participate in the annual Swim BC Regional Camp. Regional Coach Mike Flegel set the tone early with a presentation on the importance of underwater kicking. Pool sessions led by Provincial Coach Vince Mikuska, were set around five Big ideas, Fish Kick - Posture - Recovery - Anchor and Acceleration. The swimmers were very enthusiastic and willing to try new ideas in their stroke technique.
2008 Olympian and former National team member, Tanya Hunks was on hand to share insight and stories with the swimmers. The swimmers listened attentively as Tanya laid out her long journey - one with many ups and downs, but which she says she would not have done any other way - onto the 2008 Olympic team.
Canadian Sport Pacific Nutritionist Sue Boegman gave a presentation and led the swimmers in a nutritional quiz game, while Christie Gialloreto presented information on utilizing mental skills to improve performance in the pool.
