The field is tightly bunched after the first day of competition at the 2012 TAS SwimBC AAA Championships in Surrey, with Vancouver Pacfic Swim Club staking the pole position. Five teams are within 50 points of one another after Thursday's events - 800 and 1500 Free, plus the 4x100 Medley relay - and which resulted in a number of record-breaking performances.
New meet records in the 1500 came from Austin Phillips (KCS - 18:58.26) in the 11&U boys as well as Edwin Zhao (PSW - 15:59.13) in the 14&U boys age category.
The 18&U girls 4x100 Medley relay featured one of the more exciting races of the evening, as Island Swimming's 4:12.71 time done by Naomi Ellis, Jennifer Mann, Heidi Bradley, and Taylor Padington, barely out-touched the VAND squad by 9/100th of a second; both of them were well under the SwimBC 15-17 girls record of 4:13.49.
The top individual performances of the meet thus far have come from Sherry Liu (HYACK) at 793 FINA points, and Luke Reilly (VAND) at 773 FINA points in their respective distance events.
