Vancouver Pacific Swim Club stretched its lead over the other contenders on day two of the 2012 TAS SwimBC AAA Championships at the Surrey Sports and Leisure Centre. Pacific Sea Wolves maintained its hold on second-place, around 250 points back, losing some ground after one of their top swimmers had to scratch due to illness. Island Swimming (870), Chena (829.5) and Richmond Rapids (825) rounded out the top five in one of the closer races at this meet in recent history.
A number of new meet records were established on Friday evening: Hillary Metcalfe (LAOSC) in 200 IM and 200 Free; Nina Takahashi (VPSC) in 200 IM; Heather Lam (VPSC) in 50 Free and 100 Back; Paul Zou (WDSC) in 50 and 200 Free; Darren Yuan (PSW) in 50 Free; Lauren Crisp (UVPCS) in 100 Back; Nunu Singh (WDSC) in 100 Back; and Erin Lawrence (IS) in 200 Free.
The 4x50 Medley Relays also saw a number of record breaking performances, including Ravensong Aquatic Club in 12&U girls, Winskill Dolphins in 14&U girls, and Richmond Rapids in 18&U boys.
Taylor Padington (IS) took over the lead in top FINA-point swims with her narrow win (.03 seconds) over Sherry Liu (HYACK) in the 18&U 200 Free, scoring 776 FINA points with her 2:00.95; Luke Reilly's (VAND) 1500 Free swim from Thursday at 734 FINA points held up as the top FINA swim on the boys' side.
