The original posting of event information for the 2012 SwimBC Open Water Championships, scheduled for Monday, July 9, at Albert Dyck Lake near Abbotsford, contained contradictory information.
The current rule interpretation from Swimming Canada concerning minimum ages for sanctioned open water events states that all participants must be at least 12 years of age on the day of the race.
While this stipulation was in the meet information package, the age groups listed were at odds with this rule.
The corrected age groups and corresponding distances for the open water race are as follows:
- Ages 12-13: 2.0km
- Ages 14-15*: 3.0km
- Ages 16&O: 5.0km
*NOTE: 14&15-year-old swimmers have the option of entering the 16&O 5.0km race.
The corrected meet information package is available for download here.
Our apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
