The Canadian Senior National Summer Championships are underway in Edmonton at the Kinsmen Sport Center. 443 swimmers representing over 150 Canadian clubs are involved in the meet. Swimmers will be vying for spots on the Senior Development Tour team as well as the Junior Pan Pacific Championships team.
BC swimmers won four gold, five silver and four bronze medals to open the competition.
The men’s 800Freestyle was first up on the program tonight. Eric Hedlin, IS took the silver medal and Will Brothers, IS swam to the bronze.
In the women’s 50 Butterfly Noemie Thomas, VAND was the silver medalist. In the men’s event, Kelly Aspinall, VAND touched first for the gold with Coleman Allan, VAND right behind him for the silver.
The women’s 200 Freestyle had Brittney Harley VAND winning her first national championship. Sherry Liu, Hyack had a strong finish to place second. Jeremy Bagshaw, IS was the bronze medalist for the men.
Lauren Lavigna, VAND stroked to third spot in the women’s 100 Backstroke. Jake Tapp, LOSC hung on to win the gold on the men’s side.
Noemie Thomas, VAND followed up her 50 Butterfly medal with the gold in the women’s 200 Butterfly. Brenna Maclean, WVOSC placed second. Coleman Allan, VAND won his second medal of the night, collecting bronze n the men’s 200 Butterfly.
