SwimBC Success at 2015 Canadian Age Group Champs

The 2015 iteration of the Canadian Age Group Championships took place from July 28-August 3, in Quebec City, QC, with approximately 850 swimmers in attendance.  The 172 SwimBC swimmers from 32 of our clubs made a strong impression, putting up performances and scoring that proportionally over-represented the province.

The top SwimBC club in the meet was UVic-Pacific Coast Swimming, who finished fifth in combined team scoring, while also winning the Women’s Championship team banner.

Also cracking the Top20 out of the 160 clubs in attendance were Kamloops Classic Swimming (11th), Richmond Rapids (12th), Chena (13th), Hyack (15th), Langley Olympians (18th), Campbell River Killer Whales (19th), and UBC Dolphins (20th).

Three National records were set at the meet with two of them coming from Eric Tong (RAPID) – 100 Free and 200 Free, while new SwimBC records were established by Michael Schmidt (UVPCS) in 200 Breast, and WDSC 15-17yr. boys in the 4x100 Free Relay.

To cap off the results, of the ten age group aggregate awards compiled from the results (scored 5-2-1 for the first three placings), SwimBC athletes took four of those:

  • Amanda McCallum (RAPID) - 12&U Girls
  • Tai Long Singh (WDSC) - 15yr. boys
  • Molly Gowans (UVPCS) - 15yr. boys
  • Tim Zeng (CHENA) - 17-18yr. boys
