On September 24, Swim BC co-hosted the Annual BC Swimming Awards with the BCSCA; which was held at the River Rock Casino/Resort in Richmond, BC. It was a great celebration with over 140 people in attendance, including members from both the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Teams.
Swim BC Award winners were:
Male Swimmer of the Year - Ryan Cochrane
Female Swimmer of the Year - Hilary Caldwell
Open Water Swimmer of the Year - Richard Weinberger
Para-swimmer of the Year - Nathan Stein
Club of the Year - HYACK Swim Club
Official of the Year - Sheila Nelson (PGB)
Volunteer of the Year - Dawna McIver (RAPIDS)
As well, Joan Marjorie Langdon was inducted into the BC Swimming Hall of Fame. Joan swam at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games (80 years ago), when she was 13 years old. Everyone was amazed with her description of her training regime during her travels on a ship across the Atlantic. The ship's pool was no longer that 5 meters long, so they had to tie a rope around her waist so it would hold her in one spot.
Congratulations to all the Award Winners!
