2017 Westerns / Easterns - Day 3 Report

SwimBC athletes continued to swim and perform well at the 2017 Canadian Eastern Swimming Championships and Canadian Western Swimming Championships, with SwimBC racking up another 29 medals between the two meets on Saturday night.

Some highlights from Westerns include Jaren LeFranc’s (KISU) golden sweep of the breastroke events, following his victory in the 17 and Over 50m breastroke on Saturday. LeFranc is a member of the 2017 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships team heading to Indianapolis this summer.

On the women’s side, SwimBC girls owned the podium in the Women’s 13-15 200m BK. Angelica Bath (CHENA) touched first, followed by Acacia Benn (KISU) and Haley Klenk (SPART). At Easterns, Faith Knelson (ISC) also completed her sweep of the women’s 13-15 breastroke events. Jade Hannah also completed her own respective sweep, but this time in the women’s 13-15 backstroke events. Both Knelson and Hannah will be joining LeFranc on the World Junior Swimming Championships team.

Mackenzie Padington (ISC) touched first in the women’s 16 and Over 400 FR, beating out the rest of the field by 8.37 seconds. Padington booked her ticket to Budapest for the 2017 World Swimming Championships earlier this month. On the men’s side, Brodie Young (HYACK) added a silver medal to his collection in the men’s 14-16 400m freestyle. He just missed gold by 0.03 seconds. Young was followed closely by his teammate, bronze medallist Marin Dimitrov (HYACK), who was only 0.31 seconds behind him.

In women’s team scores at Westerns, ISC moved up to 4th place, followed by PGB (7th), LOSC (8th), and KCS (10th). KISU continues to lead the charge on the men’s side in 3rd, followed by five other SwimBC teams: CHENA (4th), KCS (5th), ISC (8th), PSW (9th), and SKSC (10th). For the combined team scores, KISU leads in 4th followed by ISC (5th), KCS (6th), CHENA (8th), and PSW (9th). At Easterns, the ISC women’s team continues their domination in 1st place, followed closely by HYACK (5th). Hyack is also 4th in men’s team scores.
