2018 Canadian Trials - Day 4 Recap

BC swimmers continued to swim to success on the penultimate day of the 2018 Canadian Trials, with several swimmers adding to their meet schedules. Events for the evening included the 100m FL para multi-class, 200m BK, 50m FR, 50m FL para multi-class, and Women’s 1500m FR. 


In the Women’s 100m FL para multi-class, BC had two finalists. The top finisher was Aimee Brennan (S9SB9SM9) (WDSC), who touched in a 1:30.32 for seventh place. Arianna Hunsicker (S10SB9SM10) (SKSC) followed just behind in eighth place in a time of 1:24.92. In the Men’s event, Nick Bennett (S14SB14SM14) (RAC) added yet another medal to his haul this weekend. His time of 1:05.48 was good enough for the bronze medal. Ian Goodyear (S9SB7SM9) (COMOX)  finished in eighth in a time of 1:19.05. 


The Women’s 200m BK saw three BC women reach the final. Ingrid Wilm (UBCSC) was the top finisher in sixth place in a time of 2:14.97. She was followed by Molly Gowans (ISC) in eighth in a time of 2:15.56 and Olivia Ellard (UBCSC) finished tenth in a 2:16.97. In the Men’s event, Markus Thormeyer (UBCSC) added yet another event to his schedule for the Pan Pacific Championships. He slid under the 2:00 barrier to touch in 1:59.13 to win the event. Josh Zakala (ISC) finished just 0.01 seconds behind the second place finisher in a time of 2:01.87. Pan Pacific Championships member Josiah Binnema (UBCSC) rounded out the heat in tenth in a 2:05.48. 


Yuri Kisil (UBCSC) was the lone BC finalist in the 50m FR, and he represented BC well with a first place finish. His time of 22.06 landed him another swim at the Pan Pacific Championships next month. 


Several BC swimmers cracked the top ten in the Women’s 1500m FR. Mackenzie Padington (CRKW) topped the podium again with a new best time - her time of 16:25.38 earned her another swim at the Pan Pacific Championships. Brooke Lamoureux (ISC) touched in sixth place in 17:16.68, followed closely by seventh place finisher Octavia Lau (HYACK) in a 17:17.02. Chantel Jeffrey (ISC) finished in tenth in a 17:28.47.
