Fourteen BC swimmers represented Canada at the 2026 Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Vancouver, gaining valuable international racing experience while delivering several strong performances against some of the world’s top junior swimmers.
BC athletes helped Canada to one of its four medals of the competition, with Kelly Choi (KAJ), Marlee Winser (KISU) and Kaede Takai (OS) joining Ranumi Eashwarage on the bronze-medal-winning women’s 4x100m freestyle relay.
On the final night of racing, Maelle Sanborn (UVPCS) posted a personal best of 2:29.22 to finish fifth in the 200m breaststroke before joining Taryn Weatherhead (KISU) on Canada’s fourth-place 4x100m medley relay team. Shae Murtha (OS) placed sixth in the 200m individual medley, while Michelle Zeng (CDSC) finished seventh.Liam Chew (KAJ) closed out the competition with two personal bests, finishing eighth in the 200m breaststroke and ninth in the 200m individual medley.
Kaede Takai also recorded a personal best to finish seventh in the 50m freestyle, while Abigail McLeod (WDSC) swam a personal best of 8:46.02 to place sixth in the 800m freestyle.The four-day competition brought together nearly 200 athletes from 12 countries and marked the first time the Junior Pan Pacific Championships were hosted in Canada.
