Last season, Swim BC had the pleasure of welcoming University of Victoria business student Bodie Simard as our first Events & Administration Intern.
Over the course of his internship, Bodie became a valued part of the Swim BC team, supporting several areas of the organization while gaining hands-on experience in sport administration. From event logistics and technical programming to day-to-day administrative work, Bodie had the opportunity to see firsthand how many moving pieces come together behind the scenes to support swimming across British Columbia.
For Bodie, one of the biggest takeaways was gaining a new perspective on the thought and care that goes into the decisions made within a provincial sport organization.
“My internship with Swim BC was an amazing learning experience and an incredible opportunity that gave me a totally new perspective on sports administration. Getting behind the scenes showed me how operational decisions are actually made, and I could truly see how much genuine thought and effort goes into every input and decision for the swimmers.”
The internship also gave Bodie the opportunity to connect his studies at UVic with practical experience in the sport sector.
“Balancing event logistics, technical time standards and administrative tasks was a fantastic way to apply my business background from UVic to a real-world sports environment. It was an awesome opportunity that sharpened my organizational skills and set me up well for the future.”
We really enjoyed having Bodie as part of the Swim BC team and appreciated the enthusiasm, curiosity and support he brought throughout his internship. As our first intern, Bodie also helped shape what this opportunity can look like for future students interested in gaining experience within the sport sector.
