Norma Lachance Honoured with Swimming Canada’s 2026 Volunteer Contribution Award

Swim BC is proud to congratulate Norma Lachance on being named the recipient of Swimming Canada’s 2026 Volunteer Contribution Award, recognizing her outstanding contributions to swimming and her exceptional commitment to the sport over many years. 

A respected leader, mentor, and internationally recognized official, Norma has played a vital role in supporting competitive swimming in British Columbia and Canada. Whether serving on deck, behind the scenes, or in leadership positions, she is known for her professionalism, dedication, and willingness to support the swimming community wherever needed. 

Throughout her officiating career, Norma has served as Meet Manager and Meet Referee at numerous major provincial and national competitions, including Divisionals, Provincial Championships, the Mel Zajac International, Western Canadian Championships, and Short Course Nationals. Her expertise and leadership have helped ensure the successful delivery of countless events and have earned her the respect of athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers alike. 

In 2023, Norma was appointed to the World Aquatics Officials List, a significant achievement that reflects her excellence on the international stage. Most recently, she represented Canada as an official at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore, adding another milestone to an already distinguished career in the sport. 

Beyond her contributions at competitions, Norma has been instrumental in developing and mentoring officials throughout British Columbia. Her commitment to creating opportunities for learning and growth has supported the advancement of many officials through the certification pathway, helping strengthen the officiating community across the province. Her expertise and leadership continue to be recognized nationally through her appointment as a national evaluator. 

Norma’s impact on swimming extends far beyond the pool deck. Through her leadership, mentorship, and dedication to service, she has helped shape the experiences of countless athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers. Swim BC is honoured to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and thanks Norma for her extraordinary contributions to the sport.
