Weinberger, Tildesley and Simpson to be inducted into BC Swimming Hall of Fame

The BC Swimming Hall of Fame Committee (Brian Johns, Doug Perks, Chris Hindmarch-Watson, Ken Radford and Sam Thoms) are pleased to announce the 2021 inductees.  Richard Weinberger, Donovan Tildesly and Ted Simpson are to be inducted at the BC Swimming Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet October 2nd, held in conjunction with the BC Swimming Congress.
Here are some quick facts on the newest BC Swimming Hall of Fame inductees: Donovan Tildesley (swimmer):
  • Canada’s flag bearer at 2008 Paralympics
  • Sydney 2000 Paralympics – Bronze 200 Medley
  • Athens 2004 Paralympic – Silver 200 Medley + 400 freestyle; Bronze 100 Freestyle
  • Beijing 2008 Paralympics – Bronze 100 freestyle
  • World Record holder
  • Tildesley attended the University of British Columbia graduating with a BA in 2008. Donovan works full-time as an insurance broker in Vancouver and is also a professional inspirational speaker, sharing his stories with audiences of all ages, from business executives to schoolchildren.
Richard Weinberger (swimmer): Ted Simpson (coach):
  • Ted was the Head Coach of the Vancouver Y Torpedoes and in later years, coached Masters swimmers. He was valued as a coach who made swimming fun and made swimmers feel good about themselves.
  • Coach of Olympians Ron Jacks and Bill Mahony
  • 1966 British Empire Games Coach, both his swimmers (Jacks and Mahoney) medalled at these Games

Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics will be taking place from August 24th until September 5th. The swimming competition at the games will run from August 24th until September September 3rd. We are excited to cheer on the Canadian Paralympic Team, especially the members of the Paralympic Swim Team. You can stream all the events through CBC Sports. New Provincial Record

Leilani Fack of the Langley Olympians has done it again and broke 2 provincial records! She is the new provincial record holder if the Women 13-14 SCM 100m Freestyle with the time of 55.63 and the Women 13-14 LCM 50m Freestyle with the time of 26.13. She broke 2 other provincial recorders earlier this season. Congrats Leilani!

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Swimming

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are upon us! The games will run from July 23th until August 8th. Swimming will take place from July 24th until August 1st in the pool. The 10km Open Water events will take place on August 4th and 5th. We can’t wait to cheer on Team Canada during the games. Keep an eye out for the following BC swimmers who will be competing at the games:
  • Brent Hayden (HPC-V) – Pool
  • Kierra Smith (KAJ) – Pool
  • Markus Thormeyer (UBCT) – Pool
  • Hau-Li Fan (UBCT) – Open Water
Also special recognition to BC Coach, Tom Johnson will be coaching the team in Tokyo, Chris Hindmarch-Watson who will be the English language announcer at the venue in Tokyo, and the support staff (Janice Hanan, Ron Mattison, Graham Olson) who will be travelling with the team.
