Canadian Junior & Senior Championship Summary

The Canadian Junior & Senior Championships wrapped up on August 1st. 114 BC swimmers representing 24 clubs travelled to Montreal to compete. 92 medals were won by BC swimmers, 31 of which were Gold!

Three BC Swimmers brought home High Point Aggregate awards. Congrats to the award winners:

  • Laon Kim (HYACK) – Male 14-15 High Point Aggregate
  • Adam Wu (SKSC) – Male 16-18 High Point Aggregate
  • Blake Tierney (UBCT) – Male 19+ High Point Aggregate

Top medal winners from the competition are:

  • Laon Kim (HYACK) – 4 Gold, 3 Silver & 2 Bronze
  • Adam Wu (SKSC) – 5 Gold & 2 Silver
  • Emma Liu (CDSC) – 3 Gold, 1 Silver & 3 Bronze
  • Alexanne LePage (VKSC) – 2 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze
  • Blake Tierney (UBCT) – 2 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze
  • Paul Orogo (HYACK) – 2 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze

Another highlight from the competition was Laon Kim (HYACK) who broke 3 Provincial Records and 1 Canadian Age Group Record! He broke the Provincial Records in the long course 13-14 50m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly & 400m Medley and the National record in the long course 13-14 800m Freestyle.

On August 1st, the competition moved to the Open Water competition at Montreal’s Olympic Rowing Basin. BC swimmers brought home 5 Open Water medals. Congrats to the following swimmers:

  • 1500m Freestyle (Men 14-15) – Zachary McLeod, WDSC – Gold
  • 1500m Freestyle (Men 14-15) – Noah Deschambault, VPSC – Bronze
  • 1500m Freestyle (Women 13-15) – Alexia Morgans, SFA – Bronze
  • 3000m Freestyle (Men 16-18) – Aidan Erickson, LOSC – Bronze
  • 3000m Freestyle (Women 15-17) – Julia Strojnowska, CDSC – Silver
