Sebastian Massabie Joins BC Athletes Named to 2026 Commonwealth Games Team
May 1, 2026
Commonwealth Sport Canada and Swimming Canada have announced an update to the Paralympic Program roster, including the addition of another BC swimmer set to represent the nation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.
Paralympic champion Sebastian Massabie becomes the third athlete from a BC club named to the roster, adding valuable experience to the Canadian National Team set to compete at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Massabie delivered a remarkable performance at the 2024 Paralympic Swimming Trials, breaking six Canadian records and one world record, before capturing gold in the 50-metre freestyle S4 at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Now competing in the S5 classification, he will look to build on that success in Glasgow.
Jy Lawrence of the Pacific Sea Wolves Swim Club has been appointed as Team Coach for the Canadian team.
Previously announced selections include Mary Jibb of the Pacific Sea Wolves Swim Club, coached by Jy Lawrence, and Fernando Lu of Olympians Swimming, coached by Ryan Skomorowski, both of whom continue to demonstrate strong performances at the international level.
All three athletes will join the national contingent in Glasgow, where the 2026 program will host 3,000 athletes from 74 nations across 10 sports.
Swim BC congratulates Sebastian Massabie, Mary Jibb, Fernando Lu, and their coaches on their selection to the team and their continued contributions to the excellence of swimming in British Columbia.
