Swim BC Hosts Second Provincial Distance Camp of 2025–2026 Season
May 6, 2026
Swim BC hosted its second Provincial Distance Camps of the 2025–2026 season over the first weekend in May, bringing together coaches and athletes from across the province. The camps are part of a broader initiative led by Swimming Canada aimed at promoting an endurance-focused approach within the Canadian club system. The camp targeted aerobic training zones ranging from A1 through to Endurance Intensive, with practical examples of sets within these training zones throughout the weekend. The structure was designed to deepen understanding of how aerobic training can be integrated into program planning to support long-term athlete development.
The athletes in attendance had previously attended the fall camp hosted in Victoria from November 14–16. While performance improvements between the two camps were achieved in set times, the coaches highlighted that equal improvement was seen in the execution of technical skills. The camp reinforced the principle that consistent attention to good training habits is the foundation for fast racing.
In addition to practices, the athletes and coaches attended classroom sessions focused on recovery strategies and the roles of nutrition, sleep, and hydration in supporting physical recovery. These discussions complemented the training components and highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to performance development.
