TAS Golden Flipper January Results
January results for the Golden Flipper Challenge have now been posted! BC is still holding a strong lead in the challenge. However, the race is getting tighter in the Women's Categories. Swim Alberta has taken the lead in a number of age groups, but Swim BC still holds the lead in overall points. In the Men's category, BC holds a sizeable lead in overall points and the competition between BC swimmers for the top spot is tight.

Swim BC is excited to announce we are now offering our members discounted vehicle rental rates through a partnership with Avis Budget Group and Swimming Canada.
COVID-19 / RETURN TO SWIMMING INFORMATION
A quick update for our membership regarding proof of vaccine for 12-year-olds. In the Order on Gatherings & Events, the PHO has amended the definition of “vaccinated” to include an accommodation for those 12-year-olds who have only received one dose. This allows those youth who aren’t yet eligible for their second dose to participate and/or spectate as long as they can show proof of one dose.
COVID-19 / Return To Swimming Information
The Provincial Health Officer has amended the guidance specific to youth sport, announcing yesterday that as of February 1, tournaments for primarily child and youth sport will be allowed. Proof of vaccine requirements will stay in place and spectators are limited to 50% capacity.
DIVISIONAL AND PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
Given yesterday’s PHO announcement to re-instate tournament participation for child and youth sport, Swim BC now has the confidence to move forward with plans for our Divisional Competitions and Provincial Championship.
SWIM BC ADVANCE: OLYMPIAN PANEL
On January 9th, 2022, Swim BC swimmers and their coaches participated in an Olympian panel, hosted by Head to Head. The first hour was moderated by two-time Olympian and CBC Sportscaster, Brittany MacLean and featured Olympians Rebecca Smith, Yuri Kisil, Brent Hayden, and Maggie MacNeil.
Pink Cap Day
To help send this message of anti-bullying, Swim BC is providing a “Pink Cap” for swimmers throughout the province. We’re encouraging our clubs to make a statement in their local pool and wear their Pink Caps on Wednesday, February 23rd.

NEW PROVINCIAL RECORD
Laon Kim (Hyack Swim Club) broke 2 records at the Richmond FastSwim Classic. He broke the Men 13-14 SCM 100m Freestyle record with a time of 51.99 and the Men 13-14 SCM 100m Butterfly record with a time of 56.03.

Swim Together: A new model of co-participation for women and girls in sport
Parents and guardians are frequently left on the “sidelines” watching their children participate in sport. By prioritizing their child’s involvement, adults often don’t participate in sport and physical activity themselves and their own well-being may suffer.

Bennett & Lawrence Are Recipients Of The Para Swimming CanAm Female Coach Development Scholarship
Haley Bennett (Ravensong Aquatic Club) & Jy Lawrence (Pacific Sea Wolves) are among the recipients of the Para Swimming CanAm Female Coach Development Scholarship.

Golden Flipper Challenge – November Results
The second month of the Golden Flipper Butterfly Challenge is complete and interim November results are now posted. BC is holding a strong lead with 1098 points, while Alberta has 672 points.
New Provincial Record
The first relay provincial record of the season fell last weekend at the SKSC Sprint Meet.

The Public Health Officer has revised the interpretation of the order on Events and Gatherings with updated information around proof of vaccination for sport. viaSport has updated their Return to Sport Restart 2.0 chart to reflect these changes.
Caitlin Meredith Inducted into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame
BC Swimmer, Caitlin Meredith, has been inducted into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame. Caitlin represented the UBC Thunderbird Varsity Team from 2002 until 2007, her full athletic eligibility.
Leanne Sirup, Head Coach of the Duncan Stingrays, captures national Indigenous coaching award
Leanne Sirup has coached her share of swimmers to medal-winning performances over the past couple of decades. She was shocked, however, to receive news that she had been recognized with a prestigious honour. Sirup has been selected as the 2021 female recipient for the National Indigenous Coaching Awards.
Golden Flipper Challenge – Swim BC leads Alberta, with limited racing opportunities in October
We are one month into this season Golden Flipper Challenge and the October results are now posted. Swim BC leads with 1047 points to Alberta’s 560 points.

Swim BC Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of Swim BC was conducted last night (October 14). With 39 voting delegates in attendance, two special resolutions addressing bylaw amendments were passed and three new board members were elected by acclamation.
