CELEBRATING COACHES WEEK 2021

Coaches Week 2021 is from September 18 to 26th. Swim BC would like to acknowledge the great work our coaches do in representing our sport and guiding our athletes. Thank-you for all that you do. We are sharing with you several initiatives to celebrate Coaches Week. Swimming Canada Swimming Canada is making the following eLearning modules free to coaches from September 18 – 26, 2021. Please visit the Swimming Canada LMS for any of these modules:

Weinberger, Tildesley and Simpson to be inducted into BC Swimming Hall of Fame

Weinberger, Tildesley and Simpson to be inducted into BC Swimming Hall of Fame

The BC Swimming Hall of Fame Committee (Brian Johns, Doug Perks, Chris Hindmarch-Watson, Ken Radford and Sam Thoms) are pleased to announce the 2021 inductees.  Richard Weinberger, Donovan Tildesly and Ted Simpson are to be inducted at the BC Swimming Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet October 2nd, held in conjunction with the BC Swimming Congress.
Here are some quick facts on the newest BC Swimming Hall of Fame inductees: Donovan Tildesley (swimmer):
  • Canada’s flag bearer at 2008 Paralympics
  • Sydney 2000 Paralympics – Bronze 200 Medley
  • Athens 2004 Paralympic – Silver 200 Medley + 400 freestyle; Bronze 100 Freestyle
  • Beijing 2008 Paralympics – Bronze 100 freestyle
  • World Record holder
  • Tildesley attended the University of British Columbia graduating with a BA in 2008. Donovan works full-time as an insurance broker in Vancouver and is also a professional inspirational speaker, sharing his stories with audiences of all ages, from business executives to schoolchildren.
Richard Weinberger (swimmer): Ted Simpson (coach):
  • Ted was the Head Coach of the Vancouver Y Torpedoes and in later years, coached Masters swimmers. He was valued as a coach who made swimming fun and made swimmers feel good about themselves.
  • Coach of Olympians Ron Jacks and Bill Mahony
  • 1966 British Empire Games Coach, both his swimmers (Jacks and Mahoney) medalled at these Games

BC Olympian Results

Swim BC would like to recognize the performances by BC athletes at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Brent Hayden  4th – 4 X 100 Free Relay 9th – 50m Freestyle Markus Thormeyer 4th – 4 X 100 Free Relay 7th – 4 x 100 Medley Relay 16th – 200m Backstroke 19th – 100m Backstroke Hau-Li Fan 9th – 10km Open Water Kierra Smith 14th 100m Breast  

New Provincial and Canadian Records

Congratulations to Paul Orogo, Justin Jung, Laon Kim, & Matthew Wang from HYACK for breaking three Provincial and Canadian National records this weekend. They are now the record holders for following events:
  • 13-14 Male 200m Medley Relay with a time of 1:47.77
  • 13-14 Male 400m Medley Relay with a time of 3:53.74
  • 13-14 Male 800m Free Relay with a time of 7:49.63

Challenge Set #6 is completed which wraps up our Challenge Set Initiative. We had a great turnout for the initiative and would like to thank everyone who participated. Now that the Challenge Sets have completed, it is time to announce the final awards! The top 10 finalists in the Cumulative Point standings for each Age Category and Top 3 for Varisty & Para will receive an award from both Team Aquatic Supplies and RaceTek. You can find the award distribution breakdown on the Challenge Set Initiative Information package. Congratulations to all the winners.
