Coach Liam Donnelly retiring from SFU

In an announcement from SFU, Senior Director of Athletics and Recreation, Theresa Hanson, said “After 30 years of dedication to the swim program and student-athletes, Coach Liam Donnelly is retiring from SFU. He leaves a legacy of team and individual titles and national championships.  For the full announcement please visit the SFU Athletics page.  We wish Liam well in his retirement and thank him for his service to SFU.”  Swim BC congratulates Liam on his retirement from SFU. We thank him for his contributions to BC swimming and look forward to future contributions through his recent appointment with SFA.

Swim BC is pleased to be announcing our Challenge Set initiative in partnership with Team Aquatic Supplies and RaceTek. The program will include one challenge set every second week for a total of 6 challenges. Awards totalling over $ 15,000 will be presented to the cumulative top point earners in each of the categories. More information on the program is available here. It is a continuous timed swim that is IM and Free based. To help remember the swims order, think of it in its 300m blocks as below:

All submissions will be accepted via the supplied spreadsheet and must be submitted to Cory Beatt by Monday, April 12th via the Challenge Set 1 Submission Spreadsheet. Please note that when submitting the results spreadsheet, it will require the entrant to list the swimmers name (as it is in the RTR database), SNC ID Number, and Results for the challenge set. The correct time format must be used, MM:SS.00 for the results to correctly calculate. Thank-you Team Aquatic Supplies and RaceTek for your support of this initiative.

Divisional Championship Results Posted

Swim BC is very pleased with the great response to the Virtual Divisional Championships. We have had many reports of how this virtual meet generated direction, excitement, and great swims from our teams from across the province. A total of 767 swimmers from 38 teams participated in the three Divisional Championships. Congratulations to all the participating swimmers, coaches, and clubs! 2021 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS CANCELLED

Swimming Canada has unfortunately announced the cancellation of the 2021 Canadian Masters Swimming Championships (May 21-23) and the combined 2021 Canadian Junior & Senior Swimming Championships (July 26 – August 2). CEO Ahmed El-Awadi said about the cancellation “Due to the high number of participants expected at these events, it would not be possible to put the proper distancing protocols in place to ensure these events run safely. In addition, the amount of travel required to attend these events was a major factor in the decision.” To read the full announcement, click here.
