Training & Certification

CAC Locker Account

Your Locker is the central hub for tracking all your NCCP certifications and training progress. It’s essential to keep this account up-to-date. All your completed courses and modules will appear here.

Don’t have an NCCP #? Create on now!

Clubs can verify their Coaches NCCP qualifications on the Coach Transcript page on the CAC Locker website.

Access to LMS (Learning Management System)

Coaches can access the LMS to complete three main tasks: registering for an NCCP course, completing pre-course eLearning modules, and finishing online portfolios.

Swimming Teacher Certification

To become an NCCP Swimming Teacher, you must first be approved by the Lifesaving Society.  Once approved, they submit that information monthly to Swimming Canada to create or Update your NCCP Locker profile.

For more information: click here

Process Overview:

  • Submit your application and required info to the Lifesaving Society.
  • The Lifesaving Society sends approved candidates to Swimming Canada (once a month).
  • Swimming Canada creates your Locker profile and adds your training and evaluation details.
  • To complete your certification, you must finish the mandatory Make Ethical Decisions online evaluation.
Make Ethical Decisions (MED)

This is a cornerstone of the NCCP and a mandatory component for achieving both “Trained” and “Certified” status.

The MED training courses are hosted by viaSport and/or Sport Alberta; the online evaluation is available through your CAC Locker account.

Safe Sport Training

All coaches are required to complete one of the Safe Sport training options, which is valid for 5 years. This training is crucial for ensuring a safe and fair sporting environment for everyone.

To ensure credit for this course is recorded, you will need to log in to your Swimming Canada Learning Management System (LMS) account and confirm completion.

Training Options:

Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP)

A Criminal Record Check is a mandatory requirement for all registered coaches and is valid for 3 years. Please note that the processing takes up to 4-6 weeks.

Important Steps:

  • Obtain access code from Swim BC to submit your check.
  • If you have a recent CRRP check, you should be able to share the results with Swim BC.

Maintaining Your Certification

Your coaching certification is not permanent. To remain in good standing, you must actively participate in continuing education by earning Professional Development (PD) Points.

It is each coach’s responsibility to proactively track and maintain their PD points to ensure they meet the minimum requirements.

Points are awarded for a variety of activities, including attending workshops, completing eLearning modules, and coaching at major events.

Always check your CAC Locker to see your current PD point status and find a list of approved activities to keep your certification valid.

Club Hosted PD Events

Clubs can apply for pre-approval of local workshops or seminars to earn Non-NCCP Professional Development (PD) points.

  • To apply, clubs must submit their proposed activities to Swim BC four weeks in advance.
  • Swim BC will work with Swimming Canada for approval of the activity.
  • If approved, the workshops are eligible for 1-3 PD points.
  • The specific pre-approval form must be completed.
