A Parent’s Role in Safe Sport
August 11, 2020
We are all aware that coaches have a responsibility to provide participants in sport with a safe environment, but that responsibility isn’t only shouldered by them. Organizations, participants, and parents also play important roles in maintaining a safe and respectful sport environment. As a parent you may be asking yourself, what can I do? Fortunately, the Coaching Association of Canada has developed an excellent Sport Safety guide for parents.
If you have witnessed harassment, abuse, discrimination, or feel like something unacceptable is going on, we recommend you reach out to the Canadian Sport Helpline. They are a neutral third party that provides a safe space to report or will provide advice and resources on what next steps should be taken.
