Safe Sport Policy Templates

May 31, 2022

Over the past two years, Swim BC has required clubs to provide basic submissions as part of the club registration process.  We’ve done this as an introductory “accountability system”, to help create an expectation that clubs will, at a minimum have:

  • Current and relevant constitution and bylaws
  • A complaints management policy and procedure
  • A code of conduct
  • A travel policy

We began this system given our increasing awareness that most of our member club’s governance (bylaws, policies, parliamentary process) was in poor shape.  As we collected and reviewed annual submissions, it was evident that most clubs have outdated policies, are written poorly, lack the appropriate presentation and generally were not in a format that is easily accessible by their membership. We acknowledge that Swim BC has not provided the understanding of the importance of quality policies, nor have we provided the resources to assist our member clubs in upgrading their governance. A few templates for clubs the past few years, but unfortunately, what we saw is clubs simply transcribed their name on the template for the purposes of submitting to Swim BC.  This is not why you adopt policies.
