Swimmers Journey
Swim BC’s “Swimmer’s Journey” echoes the principles of the Long-Term Athlete Development Strategy and the Athlete Development Matrix, guiding swimmers through a progressive pathway. The journey begins with “Engage,” fostering initial love for the sport and building foundational skills. As athletes grow, “Train” emphasizes the refinement of technique and conditioning. Finally, “Compete” focuses on honing competitive skills, providing appropriate competitive opportunities, and achieving peak performance.
The graphic illustrates our commitment to nurturing every stage of an athlete’s growth in swimming in a progressive manner, emphasizing greater focus on training and competing as the swimmer develops.
Engage
Ignite and reignite your spark, persevere through challenges, and cultivate unwavering commitment to unlock your full potential. Engaging is a dynamic environment where education, motivation, and recognition converge. Resources offered include foundational learning, motivational standards, rankings, and recognition of achievements, all designed to kindle swimmers’ passion and dedication to the sport.
Train
Consistent practice fuels your journey. Training shapes skills, builds resilience, and guides towards mastery. This is where innovation and discipline come together to provide feedback to inform coaches and their swimmers. Collaboration through inter-team practices, training camps, and benchmark training sets all support meaningful practice.
Compete
The torch of excellence, seizing every opportunity to test your limits, realize your potential, and celebrate your accomplishments. Providing the opportunity for swimmers to access appropriate levels of competition to strive for excellence, realize potential, and celebrate milestones.
Swim BC will continue to develop programs and services to nurture our members, support the development of healthy clubs, and provide tools to assist coaching effectiveness.
