LA28 COMPETITION SUPPORT PROGRAM

Swim BC is proud to be announcing a new initiative, the LA28 Competition Support Program. Swim BC is providing financial resources to identified swimmer / coach tandems in partnership with the home club, primarily to assist, encourage and facilitate access to enhanced competition. One of the program goals is to incentivize clubs to develop the organizational “muscle” and create a culture of supporting athlete development through to the Swimming Canada Senior Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) level. Recognizing the critical value of enhanced competition is a basic construct in realizing these outcomes. This program is to acknowledge when a swimmer’s developmental needs begin to exceed the top end of provincial competition and assists clubs to facilitate the next appropriate developmental step for the swimmer / coach tandem. More information on the program can be found below including the eligibility and application form. More Information

Local Sport Relief Fund Re-Opens for Second Intake

Local Sport Relief Fund Re-Opens for Second Intake

viaSport along with the Province of BC and the Government of Canada have announced a second intake for the Local Sport Relief Fund (LSRF). Announced today, an additional $1 million in funding will be made available to sport organizations. The LSRF is a one-time grant that is designed to provide financial relief for non-profit community sport organizations who need help with fixed costs such as rent, building maintenance and salaries during the COVID-19 pandemic. All successful applicants from the first intake will be topped-up to receive the total amount of funding they requested, to a maximum of $7,500. This is in recognition of the high financial need of these organizations, with the aim of reducing the likelihood of their collapse or permanent closure. This will be communicated to them directly by viaSport and there is no need for them to re-apply. Funding will be delivered as soon as it is received by viaSport. Organizations who applied in the fall but were not selected for funding or requested less than $7,500 will be able to reapply. Additionally, organizations who didn’t apply during the first intake are also welcome to apply. 13 Swim BC Clubs were awarded a grant during the first intake. We strongly encourage eligible clubs to apply for the grant. You can find more information and the application for the Local Sport Relief Fund on viaSport’s website.
