SwimBC Regional Camps

Swim BC is once again very pleased to be offering Regional Training Camps aimed primarily at 10-12yr. old girls and 11-13yr. old boys to each of the regions in Swim BC.

The Provincial Team Program, one of Swim BC’s proudest accomplishments over the past decade, will continue to serve swimmers aged 13-17, bringing swimmers from across the province together for both training and competition opportunities, while SwimBC will be going out to the regions to work with the next tier of swimmers - among the best in their respective regions.

With the Provincial Team Program adjusting its age groups to start with 13-14 girls and 14-15 boys, the Regional Camps will adjust as well, now targeting girls aged 10-12 years and boys aged 11-13 years.

The planned camp schedule, subject to change, for 2015-2016 is as follows:

Region Location Tentative Date
North West Prince Rupert October 17-18
North East Prince George Oct.31-Nov.1
Lower Mainland 1 Chilliwack November 6-7
Thompson-Okangan-Kootenay Kelowna November 13-14
Vancouver Island Victoria November 20-21
Lower Mainland 2 Chilliwack November 27-28

Reports on each of the camps can be found at this page.

The RTC (Regional Training Camps) seek to build on and enhance the already highly successful Provincial Team Program.

The Regional Training Camps takes the same philosophy developed and delivered for these 13-17-year-old swimmers and brings it to a much broader base of swimmers aged 10-13 years. This will take the form of training camps in each region (Northwest, Northeast, Vancouver Island, Thompson-Okanagan-Kootenay, and Lower Mainland ) over the course of the season.

By going out to the regions, Swim BC can effectively work with a much greater number of athletes. With 30-35 swimmers at each Regional camp, Swim BC is looking to reach over two hundred 10-12-year-old swimmers!

Heading up this program as Regional Technical Coach will be Swim BC Program Director, Mike Flegel, who is a fully certified NCCP Level 3 coach with over 15 years of head coaching experience in BC. He will work alongside the Provincial Team Coach in delivering these camps, seeking to align the Regional Training Camp Program with the goals and direction of the Provincial Team Program to deliver exceptional athletes to Canada’s National teams of the future.
