BC Swimmers Lead West to Win in Dual Meet

MONTREAL – Nicholas Sinclair (UVPCS) and Stefan Hirniak (IS) were involved in three wins apiece on Sunday to lead the West to victory in the annual East vs West Dual Meet swimming competition at the Claude-Robillard Centre.

The West swimmers collected 19 gold, 15 silver and 16 bronze for 50 medals overall (men and women combined) while the East finished at 14-16-16 for 46. The West was particularly strong in men’s competition winning 11 of the 17 races.

Sinclair earned his wins in the 200 backstroke as well as helping his West relays to victories in the 4X100 and 4X50 medley relays. Hirniak contributed to West victories in the 4X50 medley relay and the 4X100 freestyle relay and added the 200 butterfly to his win list as well.

Andrew Ford of Guelph, Ont., was the top East victor with two wins.

In women’s competition, East and West swimmers tied for victories at eighth apiece but the West won the total medal tally. Victoria Poon and Gabrielle Soucisse, both of Montreal, and Sandrine Mainville of Boucherville, Que., were involved in three wins apiece for the East.

Annamay Pierse of Vancouver registered victories in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes for the West.
