SwimBC Board Member, Bob Gold, Passes Away

It is with great sadness and shock that we inform our membership of the passing of Bob Gold, who had served on the SwimBC Board of Directors for the past half-decade, from complications arising from cancer.

After being involved with a number of youth sports over the years, Bob came to swimming in the early 2000s, getting involved as his daughter joined the Nanaimo Riptides Swim Team.  Not long after, he was sitting on the board of that club, eventually taking on the role of President.  Within another couple years, he was taking a leadership role with the VIR and then let his name stand for nomination to the SwimBC Board.

Upon taking that Board seat in 2008, Bob played a vital role advocating for the transition of the SwimBC Board to governance structure that it has today.  His knowledge and experience in marketing and financial administration also saw him take a leadership role on SwimBC's finance committee.

Around the board table, Bob was always forthright and sincere, offering sage thoughts and comments, but then also cracking up the room with a straight-faced joke on more than one occasion.

The obituary is here; a celebration of his life will be held at 3:00pm on December 16 at Nanaimo Golf Club.

We extend our most heartfelt condolences to Bob's family and loved ones at this loss and wish them peace and resilience in this difficult time.
