BC Swimmers Dominate 2014 Open Water Champs

Despite having already raced through five days of competition at the 2014 Canadian Age Group Championships in Winnipeg, a strong contingent of SwimBC athletes headed out to St. Malo Provincial ParkNIPA swimmers accept Open Water Team Champion banner outside of the city to contest the Open Water component of the meet.  They accorded themselves very well, winning at least one medal in all but one of the different races held at the venue, and with North Island Predators coming away with the Open Water Team Championship title.

Tim Woinoski (SFA) won the 17-18yr. boys 5km race with Finn Page (ISC) finishing second. Josh Zakala (KAJ), who has qualified for the World Junior Open Water Championships which have now been rescheduled (and moved from Israel) for the first weekend in September in Hungary, won the 16yr. boys race, and Ethan Phillips (KCS) won the 15yr. boys race with Alex Blaskovich (PSW) second, just five seconds behind.

In the older girls 5km races, Erin Lawrance (TYEE) took home the gold for 14yr. girls, while Mackenzie Padington (NIPA) took silver for 15yr. girls, and Alandra McDowell (UVPCS) brought home bronze for the 16-18yr. girls.

In the 12-13yr. boys 2.5km race, Austin Phillips (KCS) finished first, while Jasmine Skuse (NIPA) and Eden Kormendy (UVPCS) each won silver in the 12yr. and 13yr. girls races, respectively.
