The first relay provincial record of the season fell last weekend at the SKSC Sprint Meet.

The Public Health Officer has revised the interpretation of the order on Events and Gatherings with updated information around proof of vaccination for sport. viaSport has updated their Return to Sport Restart 2.0 chart to reflect these changes.

BC Swimmer, Caitlin Meredith, has been inducted into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame. Caitlin represented the UBC Thunderbird Varsity Team from 2002 until 2007, her full athletic eligibility.

Leanne Sirup has coached her share of swimmers to medal-winning performances over the past couple of decades. She was shocked, however, to receive news that she had been recognized with a prestigious honour. Sirup has been selected as the 2021 female recipient for the National Indigenous Coaching Awards.

Registration for the 2022 Swim-a-thon is now open! 

We are one month into this season Golden Flipper Challenge and the October results are now posted. Swim BC leads with 1047 points to Alberta’s 560 points.

The Annual General Meeting of Swim BC was conducted last night (October 14).  With 39 voting delegates in attendance, two special resolutions addressing bylaw amendments were passed and three new board members were elected by acclamation.

Swim BC and Swim Alberta have come together to create a friendly rivalry to develop spirit, story, and a rallying cry to inspire and motivate coaches and swimmers to improve their butterfly development.

The challenge is open to all fully registered swimmers in the competitive category in their respective provinces. Paralympic swimmers must have a Level 2 classification. Olympic Events include the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly. Paralympic Events include S1 – S7 50m Butterfly & S8 – S14 100m Butterfly.

Swim BC is excited to announce the Team Aquatic Supplies BC Swim Coaches Conference will be offered virtually. Since the cancellation of the in-person Coaches Conference in Whistler, we have been working to provide this great content in a virtual format. Swim BC is profoundly disappointed to announce the cancellation of the 2021 BC Swimming Congress.  Over the last week or so the incredible shift in COVID-19 daily transmission rates, hospitalizations, and deaths, coupled with the BC Government’s formal announcement to delay moving to Step 4 of the BC Restart Plan, left us, we feel, with no option.  Making this decision was incredibly challenging, however knowing our moral and fiduciary obligation is to ensure prioritization of our membership’s physical, mental, and financial well-being, we are comfortable with the decision.

Swim BC Virtual Summer Provincial Championships have successfully completed with 347 swimmers participating from 28 clubs. Clubs should be very proud of their accomplishments through such a challenging time. The quality of swimming in the province at this time is truly impressive. Congratulations to all the participating swimmers, coaches, and clubs!

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are upon us! The games will run from July 23th until August 8th. Swimming will take place from July 24th until August 1st in the pool. The 10km Open Water events will take place on August 4th and 5th. We can't wait to cheer on Team Canada during the games. Keep an eye out for the following BC swimmers who will be competing at the games

Swim BC is very pleased with the continued support of the Virtual Divisionals. We have had many reports of how this virtual meet generated direction, excitement, and great swims from our teams from across the province.
